Founder Catherine Poirier did not set out to build a sustainable clothing company, but sustainability became unavoidable in her quest to take pride in selling the best products. After the birth of her first child, Catherine's career took a backseat until one Halloween when, while preparing for a party, she struggled to find a long-sleeved top to wear under a sweater. In that moment, she realized she had never found a stylish yet invisible undergarment she could truly love. At that instant, her newfound desire to become an entrepreneur found the inspiration it needed to grow and propel her forward.
Seeing herself as the customer—and a discerning one at that—she embarked on countless hours of research and fabric testing. She knew she needed to find a luxuriously comfortable fabric; one that could create fitted, non-bulky essentials; and catch the eye.
She found what she was looking for in Lenzing Ag's MicroModal?. This incredibly soft and versatile fabric offered the best color yield, durability, and shape retention of any fabric she tested.
In terms of sustainability, this fabric, made from cellulose fibers of sustainably harvested beech trees, is unmatched. Garments made from MicroModal? are produced using a closed-loop manufacturing process (a circular model with no unused byproducts), are biodegradable, and can re-enter the ecosystem, ready to nourish the growth of the next generation of plants.
To perfect her ethical production line, Catherine chose to have the final products crafted by artisans in American manufacturing facilities. With highly regulated working conditions and fair compensation, she takes pride that all Body Bark products are proudly "Made in the USA."
