Dansko is one of the representative brands of casual footwear in the United States. In the 1980s, professional horse trainer Peter Kjellerup and his wife Mandy Cabot were traveling in Denmark when they were captivated by the comfortable feel of the local wooden clogs. These shoes not only provide excellent support for the legs and spine but can also be worn on almost any type of ground surface.
This inspired them to bring these health-friendly shoes to more people. After returning to the United States, they began displaying and selling these clogs from the trunk of their car at horse farms. Through word of mouth over several years, the shoes gained widespread acclaim. In 1990, they officially launched the Dansko brand for these shoes, which were based on the Danish clog design. The name Dansko means "Danish Shoes," continuing the inspiration and essence of their origin. In just over 20 years, Dansko rapidly grew into the second-largest casual footwear brand in the United States.
