JanSport 35 years ago, Jan Lewis, along with her two close friends Skip Yowell and Murray Pletz, first introduced modified military backpacks to American school campuses. When they founded the company in 1967, they decided to use the name of the only female partner as the world's first dual-shoulder strap backpack brand. This is the origin of the name JanSport, which later became wildly popular across the United States and established itself as America's number one backpack brand.
