Magee 1866, a British clothing brand, was founded in 1866 in County Donegal, Ireland, a region renowned for its tweed production—the famous Donegal tweed. This fabric is made entirely from local materials: wool from local sheep and dyes derived from the pigments of native plants such as blackberries, gorse, and moss. As a result, the fabric offers exceptional warmth and durability, with its most distinctive feature being the bright, beautiful colored flecks scattered throughout. Donegal tweed is the primary material used in Magee 1866 clothing.
The English name "Tweed" for this fabric originates from a river separating England and Scotland, but the fabric was originally called "tweel" in Scottish, meaning twill. It was a British merchant's spelling mistake that led to it being known as "Tweed," and the name stuck.
