In 1977, pharmacist Miguel Krigsner invested just $3,000 to set up shop behind a small door on a narrow street in Curitiba, a city in southern Brazil. He named his small compounding pharmacy O Boticário, an ideal name to capture the spirit of an alchemist capable of putting love into small jars. Only, from the very beginning, "Dr. Miguel" realized his true passion was cosmetics. The first products he created were collagen-based creams, elastin creams for stretch marks, shampoos, and seaweed baths. Word of mouth spread, and suddenly the pharmacy began attracting more and more enthusiasts of special formulations. Then came the first perfume. Housed in an amphora-shaped bottle (today our greatest symbol), this fragrance blended unusual ingredients. The difference was that it seemed to leave love on the surface of Brazilian women.
