The Proctor & Schwartz Electric Company traces its roots back to the Philadelphia Textile Machinery Company, founded in 1885. It made its debut in 1920 and revolutionized the American kitchen with its many inventions: the first silent toaster, the first electric glass coffee maker, the first cord-attached iron, the first toaster/rotisserie, the first pop-up toaster/oven, the first adjustable automatic iron, the first line of detachable kitchen appliances, and the first transparent steam iron water tank.
In 1960, the Proctor & Schwartz Electric Company merged with Silex, a manufacturer of irons and coffee makers, to offer consumers an even wider selection of small appliances. The new company was called Proctor-Silex, and to this day, we continue to innovate, launching exciting new products and constantly improving our uniquely durable, time-tested appliances.
