Proven was born from the Skin Genome Project, whose creator won the MIT 2018 Artificial Intelligence Award. One of its co-founders is Stanford scientist Amy Yuan, who began building a database two years ago. The database currently contains over 100,000 beauty products and 8 million consumer reviews, 20,000 ingredients, and more than 4,000 scientific articles and expert-reviewed journals on formulations and skin. They aim to have computers establish relationships between products, ingredients, and reviews, and then have chemical engineers develop products based on the computer's conclusions. After completing the Skintelligence Quiz?, which covers questions about living location, skin condition, essential skincare products, and more, Proven's AI algorithm can inform consumers of their skin type. A team of Stanford dermatologists and biochemists then customizes three products for the consumer: a cleanser, a day cream, and a night cream.
