In the late 1960s, Australian surfers Alan Green and John Law set out to realize their dream—living and surfing in Torquay. In 1969, Alan Green borrowed money from his father to produce swimwear (Rip Curl), and later sheepskin boots (UGG boots). In 1970, he and John Law founded Quiksilver. They tore apart some old swim trunks, removing anything they deemed unnecessary or unsuitable—heavy canvas, lace-up fronts, long chimney-like legs, and the two thick seams and buttons that caused discomfort while paddling. All these burdens were discarded. The old style was completely gone, so they started from scratch. They designed a surfwear style based on anatomical principles, tailored for surfers.
