In 1922, Paul and Florence Kunin opened their first beauty salon, naming it the Kunin Beauty Salon (the predecessor of Regis). They subsequently expanded their business by establishing a chain of beauty salons in U.S. department stores. In 1958, the couple's son purchased these chain stores from them and renamed the company Regis Corporation.As of June 30, 2011, Regis owned a total of 7,883 company-operated hair salons, 1,936 franchised locations, 96 hair restoration centers, and held equity interests in 2,786 hair salons worldwide.
