Michael and Uli Belenky founded Zutano in 1989 when their first daughter, Sophia, was born. Professional photographer Michael and designer and art director Uli identified a major gap in the children's fashion market and handcrafted a small collection of uniquely colorful baby clothes from their New York City brownstone. These clothes quickly became favorites in the city's boutiques, and soon after, Zutano grew into one of America's top baby brands. When their second daughter, Ella, was born, the Belenky family packed up Zutano and headed north to a hilltop farmhouse in Cabot, Vermont.
