Drunk Elephant was founded in 2012. The brand got its cute and memorable name because founder Tiffany Masterson was deeply fascinated by the legend that marula fruit could intoxicate elephants, inspiring the name "Drunk Elephant." Tiffany has extremely sensitive skin—combination oily T-zone, sensitive, prone to dryness, imbalance, mild rosacea, enlarged pores, and more—and struggled to find suitable skincare products. After studying various ingredients and their effects on the skin, she identified what she believed to be the six root causes of skin issues.
