Sequoia Capital China and its global funds recently announced a joint investment in international fashion e-commerce group SSENSE, becoming its first external investor. This marks another expansion of Sequoia China's overseas consumer footprint, following its acquisition of a controlling stake in French designer brandAMI in early 2021.

Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Canada, SSENSE is a contemporary international fashion platform that brings together luxury brands, streetwear labels, and avant-garde niche designers, setting the trend for directional retail.
Following Sequoia's investment in SSENSE, "the fashion icon" and Sequoia China investment partner Zhang Yu will also join the SSENSE board of directors.

Neil Shen, Global Managing Partner of Sequoia Capital and Founding and Managing Partner of Sequoia China, said: "We are very excited to partner with SSENSE. Under the leadership of the three brothers Rami, Firas, and Bassel Atallah, the company has become a top global fashion e-commerce platform beloved by Millennial and Gen Z consumers. Sequoia will fully accelerate SSENSE's business development in China and globally. This is another milestone in our digital empowerment of the fashion industry, and Sequoia will continue to work with entrepreneurs leading the new consumer culture to jointly open a new chapter in global fashion and consumption."
