Dr. William Mathias Scholl was born on June 22, 1882, in La Porte, Indiana. Thanks to his grandfather, a shoemaker in Germany, he also learned about foot care and shoes. Young Scholl often borrowed tools from his grandfather to repair his own shoes, eventually becoming the family's cobbler. Scholl's expertise in footwear, combined with his medical background, helped him develop many of the innovative solutions offered by Dr. Scholl's? today.
