After cultivating an interest in design in high school’s clothing program, Rebecca Minkoff moved to New York City at just 18 years old to pursue her dream of becoming a fashion designer. In 2001, Rebecca designed a version of the "I Love NY" t-shirt as part of a five-piece capsule collection. In 2005, Rebecca designed her first handbag, which she soon called the "Morning After Bag," or M.A.B. This iconic handbag ignited Rebecca’s career as a handbag designer and inspired her edgy, feminine creations for years to come. After four years of designing statement handbags and accessories with her signature leathers, rivets, and hardware, Rebecca launched her first ready-to-wear collection in 2009.
