Chloé was born in the 1950s, when ready-to-wear lifestyle brands challenged the aristocratic Parisian haute couture tradition. The CHLOE brand created a modern ready-to-wear concept that is simple, beautiful, and highly wearable.
Before Chloé was founded, high-end fashion houses at the time only produced custom-made garments. Although only a few could afford these bespoke pieces, many people often hired local seamstresses to create poor-quality copies. Chloé founder Gary Aghion abandoned the rigid and stiff styles popular in the 1950s, pioneering the use of fine fabrics to sew soft, feminine "luxury prêt-à-porter." The ready-to-wear market as we know it was born from this.
