Any surprises on this list? After all, nine out of the top ten are fashion brands. The only exception is the luxury department store retail brand Harrods.

But when you delve into luxury fashion brands, their dominance in the popularity arena isn't surprising.

According to a report by Statista in early 2023, the global luxury fashion market saw a massive rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, with revenues increasing to nearly $92.69 billion that year.

Another Statista data point from May 2023 shows the luxury fashion segment generated $97.23 billion in revenue in 2022 and is projected to reach $111.45 billion in 2023.

Between 2022 and 2027, the compound annual growth rate for the luxury fashion segment is expected to continue at 5.62% year-over-year, a fairly healthy margin.

1. Hermes

Hermes

French fashion house Hermes, founded in 1837, is named after German-born businessman Thierry Hermes, who established the brand by retailing horse harnesses. To this day, Hermes retains its equestrian roots, selling equestrian products like saddles.

Other parts of the Hermes catalog include home decor (indoor and outdoor), menswear, and womenswear, from scarves to shoes, belts, and ready-to-wear styles.

The company experienced a decline around the 1970s but rebounded when Hermes began using natural materials in its perfumes and other products. Today, the Hermes brand is beloved for its unique style, naturally securing a spot on luxury brand rankings.

Chanel

French luxury brand Chanel is the epitome of the word luxury. Coco Chanel created the brand in the early 1910s in romantic Paris. Today, the Wertheimer family runs the company from London, a change that occurred in 2018.

Ready-to-wear luxury fashion is a primary reason consumers favor Chanel, but the brand is also famous for its perfumes, especially the iconic No. 5.

Other mainstays of the Chanel brand include the retailer's suits (aptly called the Chanel suit) and its little black dress. The interlocking CC logo is ubiquitous.

Chanel unsurprisingly secures the second spot on the best luxury brand ranking.

How did Louis Vuitton build such an enduring brand? Part of it is related to the LV monogram logo, which appears on almost all of the brand's goods. It is a symbol of excellence, fashion-forwardness, and one of the most recognizable logos in fashion and the broader retail industry.

The brand's scope extends far beyond ready-to-wear fashion, retailing sunglasses, accessories, watches, perfumes, jewelry, and shoes.
